About Ray Childers

My Story

Hi, this is Ray Childers. I’m a retired Research Scientist from Eli Lilly and Company, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

I launched this site, “Existence: Why Your Worldview Matters”, in 2016, to begin to share some of what I’ve discovered along the way – that being able to tie the past, present and future together in one “model” makes for a relatively stress free life. My initial plan was to write one new post per week. As the first draft of Existence evolved, my posting schedule became protracted. Now that the book has published, I plan to post more frequently.

I was born and raised in southern California, where I did undergraduate research at and received my B.S. degree in Chemistry from UCLA in 1967. I then attended graduate school at Indiana University, in Bloomington, Indiana where I earned my Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry in 1972. After postgraduate study on the structure and function of peptides and proteins, Eli Lilly and Company hired me in 1974. I worked in Indianapolis for 26 years as a research scientist in the Pharmaceutical Product Development component.

It’s been an interesting journey from teaching Darwinian Evolution to research scientist to Christ follower to public speaker to author.  Looking backwards, it all makes some sense, but I had no idea, at the time, that the voyage would land me where I find myself today. In addition to hard working parents, I can recall several mentors who have been instrumental in getting me to this point, namely professors Bill Libby, Rupert Wentworth and John Whitcomb.

I am currently on staff with CBMC Indiana, where I am involved in Operation Timothy, Leadership Coach Training and the Marketplace Ambassador initiative.

I’ve been married for 53 years to my wife, Lisa.

We have two grown children and six grandchildren, so life is good ! We enjoy traveling and outdoor sports. Today, Lisa provides me the support to move forward with this entire, “Existence” project.

Writing Existence has helped me realize my passion and communicate my excitement about not only knowing “the end of the story”, but having developed an understanding of that which rationally connects that “end” with the “beginning of the story”. My grasp of the “meat” of the story has been a great personal source of rest, hope, peace and joy. I hope to be able to help others reach a similar comfort level in their own lives.

Feedback & Reviews

See what people are saying about Ray Childer’s book Existence.

“Dr. Ray Childers has done a masterful job of outlining the impact of one’s worldview in assessing the data of our existence. I highly recommend this book for those who are seeking to reconcile ‘science’ and the Bible.”

Gary Stump

Pastor of Onward Church

“Ray has a heart for articulating a biblical worldview through the grid of a research scientist. His book is easy to read and thorough explanations – it’s a good resource for the science minded and the newbie alike.”

Todd DeKruyter

Author

“if you feel like you’re drifting, Existence might be the compass that navigates you towards an anchorage – Dr. Childers found his anchor in Jesus. Everyone should read it, especially if one needs to steady his course.
